Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery’s Zen Drum Ensemble

Zen Drumming activity in KMSPKS stretches back to the Late-90s of the last century when a group of devotees and volunteers with a passion for Buddhist-Music was gathered by Venerable Kwang Sheng to form Zen Age Percussion Ensemble to perform in a massive Buddhist-Concert at Kallang-Theatre.

Since then, Zen Drumming activities had evolved into more a formal & co-ordinated activity with classes being conducted for both working-adults and youth on a yearly-basis. That aside, graduates from the drumming classes who are interested to further their skills and to contribute-back to the monastery joins Zen Drum Ensemble as performers.

The Ensemble is a frequent-performer in Vesak-Celebrations organized by the Singapore Buddhist Federation as-well-as in the monastery’s own events such as Vesak-Celebration Performance as-well-as Volunteer-Night.

That aside, it also perform  in various performing-platforms of the Buddhist-Community such as International Zen Conference & Sound of Samadhi Concert organized by Kwan Yin Chan Lin, Fundraising-Events & Anniversary-Celebration of various Buddhist Monasteries & Organizations.

It also regularly performs in community-events run by PA (Celebration of Drums organized by Community-Drumming Network); NCSS (Carnival of Drums organized by OneheartBeat in-aid of Student-Care Service Fundraising) ; MCYS & IRCC (IRCC in Heartland Roadshow); Ship for South East Asis Youth Program’s Roadshow.

The Ensemble also contributes to interfaith performances organized by IRO such as IRO Day Concert, IRO Charity Dinner, The China-Singapore Religious and Cultural Exhibition, IRO SG50 Celebration Concert.
